Proctors

Proctors are undergraduate or graduate TAs that are responsible for several critical functions of the CBTF:

  1. Identity verification - proctors must ensure that the physical appearance of the student arriving for their reservations bears at least a passing likeness to their photo on their UBC card or other photo identification.
  2. Start the Assessment - the assessment will not usually begin until a proctor clicks a button (PrairieLearn tests), or verbally announces (Canvas) students may begin their tests.
  3. Invigilate and manage the room - despite the high security in the CBTF rooms, it is still important for proctors to routinely scan the room and student screens to ensure academic integrity.
  4. Triage unexpected issues - though the CBTF now functions fairly smoothly, occasionally odd technical things happen that affect either a seemingly random subset of students, or all students. It is important for proctors to help troubleshoot these types of issues on the spot, and later document them via our reporting procedures.
  5. Flag and report misconduct - Though proctors are not responsible for handling or dealing with academic misconduct, but they must document all instances and assist in the subsequent investigations.

Overall, proctors are critical to the overall functionality of the CBTF. In general, proctors are not permitted to answer students’ content-related questions, though they are there to help students deal with unexpected technical issues.

Refer to the invigilation instructions, as well as the maintaining academic integrity for more details on the CBTF proctor duties.
