Troubleshooting

The following are steps for troubleshooting CBTF hardware such as the computers and monitors.

  • Ensure that both the monitor and computer are powered on. The monitors have LED lights in their bottom right corners that indicate if the power is on. The computers, which are the small boxes on the desks beside the monitors, also have LED lights in the power buttons, but they are very dim. Ensure that both of these devices are on, and if they are off you can turn them on by pressing their power buttons.

  • If the devices will not turn on, check their power cables. First, check that they are fully connected to the back of the device. If this is not the problem, look under the desk to where the power cable plugs in to the power bar and ensure that a) the cable is plugged in to the power bar, b) the power bar is on (LED light is on), and c) the power bar has power. If all of the cables are connected correctly but the devices still do not turn on, try a long press, about 10 seconds, on the power buttons then do a short press. If the devices still do not turn on, report it using the CBTF Reporting Tool.

  • If you turn on a computer that was previously off, it may give a list of boot options in a BIOS menu. Select the first one (boot from hard disk) by navigating to it in the list using the arrow keys and pressing the enter key.

  • If a station’s monitor and computer are both on but the monitor is not receiving signal, first check that the display cable (likely HDMI) is securely connected to both the monitor and the computer. You may need to wiggle this cable around or remove it and reinsert it. Some monitors in the CBTF use adaptors for the display cables, so if the machine you are troubleshooting has this, try disconnecting and reconnecting the adaptor. If this does not fix the issue, try turning the monitor off and back on. If this still does not fix the issue, check that the monitor is using the correct input source. To do this, click one of the buttons on the bottom of the monitor other than the power button to open the monitor’s menu. Then press the button underneath the symbol that looks like an arrow going into a box. Now, try selecting different options (i.e. HDMI 1 and HDMI 2) to see if there is any signal to either of those.
